Fridays Cricket will be accompanied by DJ Vern, and then on the Saturday he will be joined by;
The Wrongo Bongo Band
&
The Hooligan Choir
On Friday 12th August, Alecs Field in Hazelbury Bryan will be hosting what we think is the first floodlit cricket match in the county between Hazelbury Bryan CC and Shaftesbury CC, we hope to attract a good crowd who can enjoy both the joys of "The Old Game" as well as the joys of the nearby Antelope Inn... we might even be able to squeeze a live band into the evening... more details to follow!
We hope to stage an evening of live music in the field... as usual, more details to follow!
The festival was established to raise funds towards the construction of new village changing rooms on the sports field, and it is the construction of these that is this years priority. Unfortunately time for organising all the different events/ projects is finite and it is felt that although we still seek to raise funds this year, through the cricket clubs activities and a couple of smaller gigs, time must be spent progressing the actual building of the facilities... we hope you understand and thank you for your support.
It is intended that everyones post Olympic blues can be blown away next year with The Festival of Bryan 2012, provisional date Saturday August 11th 2012.
Keep this site bookmarked and check back here for updates!
The organisers of the 2010 Festival of Bryan would like to thank all those that supported, attended last years day of music and performance on Alec`s Field in early August. We are proud to announce we raised in excess of £9000 towards good causes.
The following donations were subsequently made; £3000 to Julia`s House Childrens Hospice, £250 Hazelbury School Swimming Pool Fund, £250 Mesothelioma Uk (in memory of Sally Knauer), with the remaining £5500 to the Changing Room Redevelopment Fund.
The festival featured 12 Hours of non-stop live music across two stages, a small dance tent. With a cafe, workshops, children's entertainment, market stalls, local food traders, real ale and cider bar, cocktail bar, circus performers, fire show, magician and a firework spectacular!

The event in 2009 was a huge success, with 500 people or more over the day dancing along to the bands, participating in workshops and generally eating, drinking and being merry. The event raised over £7000 for Hazelbury's sports facilities fund and Julia's House Childrens Hospice. The event is put together by a small team of volunteers in the village, with excellent infrastructure support from Sherborne's EventsCrew.
This years named charities were the Alec's Field sports fund and Julia's House children's hospice.
2009's highlights included Birmingham's heavy funk outfit Cantaloop, roots festival favourites Wholesome Fish, Dorset's peddlers of finest ska Boy Le Monti and Swindon's hip-hop stars Beat Bullyz, favourites of BBC Radio 1's Huw Stevens, star band on cult TV show Hollyoaks and recently on the bill at a major dance event in Hyde Park in 2010.
We will not be putting on a full blown festival this year.
The festival was established to raise funds towards the construction of new village changing rooms on the sports field, and it is the construction of these that is this years priority.
However we are having a couple of smaller events during the summer.
The final performance slot on the music programme has been filled on Tuesday 27/07. We are delighted to announce that Dorset Unsigned Music Awards finalists Disco's Out (Murder's In) have agreed to join the party. The eccentric collective from Bournemouth left audience, judges and major label A & R reps speechless with their vibrant live show at the finals. The band blends funky rock punctuated with big brass and woodwind, and some really whacky costumes and onstage antics. Video footage available on the band's Myspace.
Following some recent late cancellations, the band schedule has swiftly been topped up and this has undoubtedly resulted in some higher profile acts lending their support to the event. Dream booking Danny and the Champions of the World can’t seem to put a foot wrong this year. Their powerful style of soulful folk and acoustic rock is widely acclaimed by the music press. The band have a busy summer bringing their dynamic live show to large stages at Glastonbury, Cambridge, Summer Sundae festivals and such like. Later this year they join The Magic Numbers on a major UK tour of Academy and University venues. Festival of Bryan may well be one of the last opportunities to see this great band in such an intimate setting, they seem bound for stardom.
Also joining the party will be The Dreaming Spires, another promising act formed by members of the indie band Goldrush, who achieved moderate mainstream success. Their rocky Americana style has drawn favourable comparisons to Tom Petty and Crosby, Stills and Nash. Completing the new musical additions are husband and wife folk duo Trevor Moss and Hannah Lou, whose delicate original songs have also been winning fans in the music press.
Other musical highlights include Bristol 9-piece latin funk outfit Mango Factory, Swindon’s reggae stars The Erin Bardwell Collective and not forgetting North Dorset’s own purveyors of finest ska Boy Le Monti. Another welcome piece of news is that the Incredible Magician Kasrani will also be arriving at the festival in the evening. Kasrani will be mingling with crowds at the event, showcasing his skills; he recently worked in the Universal Pictures movie “Magicians”.
Fundraising Background: As before this is a community event whose purpose is to have some fun while raising funds for the village sports facilities. Drawings are done and planning permission has been granted for the redevelopment of the existing dilapidated facilities, and to date the Hazelbury Bryan community has raised nearly £30,000 to the project.
Watch this space for further information as the festival gets closer.
